Indigenous women face double discrimination and marginalization on the basis of their gender,ethnicity and economic class. They are often dehumanized degraded and subjected to treatment as second hand human beings despite the existence of National Legislation that discourages such practices. Indigenous women have a more articulated view of the challenges and obstacles to their full participation in politics. The main obstacle is the power imbalance that puts them into weaker positions as compared to men .Due to lack of capacity and skills they are unable to take up such responsibilities. Again these women lack a certain level of income that allows them the free time to join in political activities ,support from political parties, willingness to deal with community problem, bravery and preparedness to face opposition by male dominated councils.This is why we cannot find them in areas of decision making.

Responses

• A capacity building workshop was organized on the 04th of April 2018 in Ngaoundere that regrouped 50 community leaders, Administration,leaders of Political parties on the importance of inclusion of women into the electoral process.
• Over 40 Indigenous women leaders sensitized on the elections matters and management of public affairs on the 26 -27 of May 2018.
• More than 5000 indigenous women and girls were trained on the importance of participating in electoral process
• 2500 women and girls effectively registered on the electoral list and in position of the voters card in Four Communities in the Adamawa region ( Ngoundal, Ngaoui, Mayo Darle and maiganga)
• 20 mbororo women  were supported and coached to present their candidatures at the Municipal and legislative elections 2020
• 3500 women and girls effectively performed their voting rights in the presidential elections 2018 and Legislative and municipal elections 2020 in Cameroon.
